It has been a pleasure for the doctors and staff
of Brookway Dental to give something back to the
community that has given them so much.
Throughout the year our clinic actively promotes
children’s dental health but every February, when
the American Dental Association sponsors National
Children’s Dental Health Month, we volunteer time,
professional services and funds, in conjunction with
the Brookhaven chapter of the Junior Auxiliary, to
focus on pediatric dental screenings for over 300
children annually at elementary schools in the
Brookhaven area. During these screenings our staff,
along with other members of the Southwest
Mississippi Dental Study Club and Brookhaven’s
Junior Auxiliary chapter, passes out basic dental
supplies to the children and gives presentations
demonstrating proper oral hygiene. This is a fun,
yet rewarding day for both the adults and children
involved.
In 2003 Dr. Doty and his wife, Sally, spearheaded
fundraising--and even the actual construction--of
Kids Kingdom. Since then Sally has further pursued
improvements to the facilities available on site.
This much needed playground has provided Brookhaven
youngsters with a unique environment in which to
just be KIDS!
After Hurricane Katrina, Dr. Doty’s served as the
ADA’s site coordinator through which donated dental
supplies and equipment from across the nation were
gathered and disbursed to dentists whose practices
had been devastated by the disaster. It broke our
hearts to hear the stories of these victims,
determined to build back their much needed practices
in Mississippi and Louisiana.
As a member of the Brookhaven Lions Club, Dr. Doty
aggressively assists that organization with projects
that provide glasses or eye treatment to needy
recipients.
Additionally, Brookway Dental staffers have
participated in such local events as Make A Wish
Foundation’s “Walk for Wishes” and individually, as
well as a practice, contribute to numerous
charitable events.
On a regular basis Brookway Dental provides pro bono
dental care for residents of the Brookhaven Boswell
Regional Center and qualified individuals identified
by Mississippi office of The National Foundation of
Dentistry for the Handicapped.
Talk to Dr. Doty for more than just a few minutes,
and you will learn about his love of flying.
We are all proud of his appointment to the
Brookhaven Municipal Airport Board. Through
his participation in “Angel Flight” on weekends or
evenings, as an instrument rated pilot, he
volunteers to fly cancer patients, who would
otherwise not have adequate transportation, to/from
treatment.
Naturally, Brookway Dental is a member of the
Brookhaven Chamber of Commerce and supports its
efforts to keep “The Home Seekers’ Paradise” moving
forward.
Recently, in recognition of his leadership, Dr. Doty
was appointed as Chairman of Brookhaven’s Long-Term
City Planning Commission.
On the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where Dr. Doty is a
partner in Beach View Dental Clinic, he helped to
protect area children with the Toothprint™ program,
a system that can assist authorities in locating a
missing child (or teen) to help make a positive
identification. Toothprints™ consists of a
thermo-plastic wafer which captures tooth position
within the arch and lower jaw relationship and a
saliva sample that contains the patient’s DNA, as
well as a long-lasting source of scent used for
canine tracking. Dr. Doty and the staff of
Beach View Dental provided this service free of
charge for children of that practice.
